Andrew Bonacina is Chief Curator of the The Hepworth Wakefield and The Calder, the institution's contemporary art space . Mr Bonacina is also working on The Yorkshire Sculpture Triangle, which hopes to create a critical mass of sculpture in the region.
He is a former curator at the International Project Space in Birmingham, where he worked with artists such as Andrea Büttner, Cally Spooner, Laure Prouvost and Redmond Entwistle. Before that, as Director and founder of the non-profit curatorial organisation The Island, he curated projects at The Clocktower Gallery in New York (with Haroon Mirza and Hannah Sawtell), Whitstable Biennial 2012 (with Jesse Jones, Gareth Moore, Patrick Staff and Cara Tolmie) and Art Dubai Special Projects (UAE).
He has also overseen various independent projects in the United Kingdom, including a collaborative exhibition with Charles Atlas, Mika Tajima and New Humans at South London Gallery. Previously he worked at Chisenhale Gallery and Frieze Foundation.
In addition to his role in Yorkshire, Mr Bonacina is Curator at the Monsoon Art Collection, a major corporate contemporary art collections in the UK monsoonartcollection.com/about/collection/.
